Special News on Monsun Relief
As Mumbai is taking its time to recover from the flood tragedy
another crisis has stuck Mumbai, but this time its epidemic - the
aftermath of the July 26th heavy downpour.
The rain water has taken the lives of many birds and animals whose
carcasses were lying on the streets for days as Mumbai was getting
back to its normalcy. There has been an outspread of epidemic throughout
Mumbai city as many are falling sick to Dengue fever, malarial fever,
Cholera, Gastroenteritis and Leptospirosis caused by the flood water.
More than 1000 cases have been recorded with these diseases so
far in the last 2 weeks. Government and other health institutions
are trying their best to give out preventive treatments to those
who are vulnerable to such epidemics. Government Hospitals are running
short of beds for admitting patients so extra beds have been added
to treat them.
The official death toll has reached 300 as per the government records.
Mumbai is facing acute shortage of medicines as Medical shops were
severely damaged by the flood water rising upto 13 ft level at many
places thus destroying all stocks of medicines.
EHCM reaches out
EHCM, like in the past have taken initiative to reach out to the
victims with relief work and have successfully helped them. This
time too, EHCM have taken initiative and formed a team of doctors,
nurses and social workers who have visited the affected area of
Govandi and Panvel to assess the situation and to distribute the
materials like foodgrains, utensils, everyday regular items etc
along with the Gospel of Christ which we feel is necessary at this
hour of crisis. The team is formed under the kind instructions of
Dr. Mrs. Kavita Anto, Medical officer in Government dept and Rev.
P. K. Joshua, EHCM Gen. Secretary who is monitoring the Harbour
Area relief program, under the guidance of our Relief committee.
The need is great at this hour to extend our helping hand to these
brothers and sisters of ours who are living in great difficulty
and so on behalf of EHCM we humbly request you to come forward
to donate generously in cash or kind towards this horrible natural
calamity. All cheques must be drawn in favour of “THE
ETERNAL HOPE CHARITY MISSION”.
We sincerely request you to continue to pray for these people and
for us also, that we may be able to strengthen them, encourage them
and comfort them during their time of sorrow and restore their lives.
