Achievements
Since
it's foundation back in 1992 EHCM has developped considerably. International
contacts and a network of faithful sponsors on one side allowed
to build up and to spreaden the various ministries. On the other
side the EHCM team has laboured hard to respond to a number of most
required needs with positive results.
Two day care centers have been established with over 1000 children
having been trained and well educated there in the past decade.
More than 200 children attend the educational programs. Some are
furthering their careers studying in colleges.
In the community development program EHCM has recently built 10
drinkig water lines for 20 houses in the rural district of Ugdir.
A multipurpose hall was built where villagers gather for educational
and cultural events. On Sundays worship services are held there.
EHCM bags Mahatma Gandhi award
For
his meritorious service rendered to the destitute and underprivileged
during the past ten years Rev. P.K. Joshua recently received the
state government's Prestigious Mahatma Gandhi award.
Felicitated by All India Christian Council, Rev P.K. Joshua received
the award from the state home minister Manikrao Thakere in the presence
of other dignitaries in Mumbai.
The EHCM, over the past 14 years, has been actively involved in
rescuing destitute people who face acute problems with basic necessities.
Till date, the NGO has sheltered and taken care of more than 160
people. "On receiving a call, we immediately deploy volunteers
to the spot where a person needs help. After assessing the physical
and mental condition, the person is sent to a suitable shelter",
says Rachel Joshua, Rev. Joshua's wife.
The charity mission runs a daycare centre at Turbhe, which takes
care of children of single parents. "Now we have 230 children
at the center; we provide them a meal, an informal education and
essential medical care."
36 percent of the population in major metropolitan cities live
in slums, which are the breeding places of immorality, sickness
and helplessness. Children are exploited by anti-social elements.
"This underlines the need of charity organisations", the
Joshua couple explain. EHCM played a key role recently in rescuing
19 minor girls from the Turbhe red light area.
Jesus says: "He who welcomes a little
child in my name, welcomes me".
